AFSCME Political Volunteer of the Month
Mary Larew – Local 12 Mary Larew has been a part of the AFSCME family for over 30 years and has continued to work tirelessly for the Union even after her retirement. Mary is the secretary for Local 12 at the University of Iowa and is involved in numerous community activities including volunteering for the Hawkeye Area Community Action Programs (HACAP) and the Homeless Children’s Trust. Mary is a former director of the Shelter House in Iowa City and still sits on the board as well as being a former Labor Liaison to the United Way and she is very active in the Coralville Noon Optimist Club. In addition, Mary is constantly working on behalf of pro-labor candidates in Johnson County and still finds the time to go watch her 11 grandchildren compete in every sport imaginable.
