| AFSCME is closer than ever to finally passing legislation
that would allow Union to collect reimbursement from non-members
for their services. The bill is HF2420, and here are some
facts you may want to know about it.
Reasonable reimbursement only applies to contract bargaining and
grievances provided by the Union, not political or educational
activities.
Iowa’s Right
to Work law is not in jeopardy, and
Reasonable Reimbursement would not
repeal it either.
Reasonable
Reimbursement applies only to the
executive branch of state
government, not city, county, schools, or
private businesses.
Reasonable
Reimbursement is not forced
unionization, and no one will be
forced to join a Union or other
organization if they do not want to.
Reasonable
Reimbursement must be agreed to by
both management and the bargaining
unit in the contract – this is only
giving Unions the opportunity to
have this in contracts.
If
non-members believe that they are
being assessed a fee that is higher
than what they should be charged,
they are able to challenge that fee.
