In Iowa, the
American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees
represents 40,000 public employees including law enforcement
and correctional officers, home health care and child care
providers, firefighters, mental health workers, professional school
staff, emergency responders, and many other workers.
The workers
AFSCME Iowa Council 61 represents are the workers that make City,
County and State government, school districts and private employers
work – AFSCME makes America Happen.
On a daily
basis, our members are working to improve the quality of life in our
schools, neighborhoods, communities, and for our families.
AFSCME Iowa
Council 61 is made up of over 100 self-governing
Locals.
Our five
District Council’s organize efforts between our local unions, train
and educate our volunteer leaders, provide representation and
bargaining support to our members, and coordinate legislative
activities.
We are a
member of
AFSCME International, the
country's leading public employee union with more than 1.4 million
members.
